– This year we forecast the laying of vineyards on an area of more than 2 thousand hectares in six Municipal Formations, against 1.6 thousand hectares in 2017, and by 2021, we plan to increase the area of vineyards to 31 thousand hectares, – the Governor of the Krasnodar Region said. – This will give an additional impetus to the development of the entire regional viticulture industry. In addition, a grape nursery, the largest in Russia, was opened in Kuban in April last year.
He also noted that the region ranks first in Russia for the grape production. So, the harvest exceeds 200 thousand tons per year – this is more than 42% of the total Russian volume. Kuban enterprises export wine to the countries of near and far abroad including Kazakhstan, Latvia, Belarus, China, Germany, Israel, Switzerland and Finland.
It is to be recalled that the Krasnodar Region is a leader in the country for the grape and wine production. Currently, there are 25.4 thousand hectares of vineyards in the region; 22 thousand hectares of them are fruit bearing. More than 200 million bottles of wine and about 50 million bottles of champagne were produced in 2017.
